South African artist Bongekile Simelane, popularly known as Babes Wodumo, has addressed the recent discussions about her noticeable weight loss, which gained attention on social media. In the shared pictures, Babes Wodumo is seen with Ukhozi FM veteran radio personality Dudu ‘Lady D’ Khoza, and her weight loss has sparked various speculations.
Radio personality Jacinta Ngobese shared her own experience on Facebook, emphasizing that she went through similar changes after giving birth. She sympathized with Babes Wodumo and encouraged people not to judge the “Wololo” hitmaker.
In response to the discussions, Babes Wodumo explained the reason behind her weight loss. She revealed that her weight loss began during her pregnancy and continued after giving birth. She expressed hurt at the criticism she received from some women regarding her appearance.
“I lost weight during my pregnancy and after birth I lost more weight. It hurts to see women making fun of how I look.”
She also mentioned that despite facing cyberbullying, she is enjoying motherhood and not stressing about her weight loss. She questioned whether the scrutiny was due to her celebrity status or her position as a young woman navigating motherhood, and she expressed her determination not to let it affect her.
“Is it because I’m a celebrity or because I’m a young woman who is finding her feet in motherhood? I am enjoying motherhood and I don’t know what they want from me. Others are quick to judge, saying I am sick, I need help, or I am taking drugs, just because I had a baby, and my body is still recovering… I am not stressing about my weight loss because some of my friends and my sister went through the same thing.”
