Nearly two years following the tragic passing of Shona Ferguson, Connie Ferguson is on a journey of healing, admitting that she still grapples with the trauma of that loss.
Shona, a celebrated actor and film producer, lost his battle with Covid-19-related complications at the Milpark Private Hospital in Johannesburg, leaving behind a legacy at the age of 47.
Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Connie recounted the pivotal moments. After Shona’s initial discharge from the hospital, she found herself in the role of a nurse and monitor for his oxygen levels. With her own ongoing battle with Covid-19, she faced the excruciating challenge of witnessing Shona’s deteriorating health, ultimately leading to his readmission.
In her own words, she stated, “I think I’m still traumatised from that night after he was discharged from the hospital. Because he was strong, he put on a front that he was strong enough to come home. That was the longest night of my life. Because I literally had to monitor his oxygen. That night he just got progressively worse. That night I was looking at my husband fading away from me.”
