Nigerian actor John Okafor, who is famously known as Mr. Ibu, has opened up about his ongoing battle with a severe illness, which has raised concerns about the potential amputation of one of his legs. Celebrating his 62nd birthday from his hospital bed in Lagos, Mr. Ibu made a heartfelt plea to his fans and fellow Nigerians for both financial assistance and prayers.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, Mr. Ibu revealed that he has been struggling with an undisclosed “strange and dangerous” ailment for several weeks. His doctor has advised him that amputating his leg might become necessary if the current treatment doesn’t yield positive results.
Expressing his reluctance to part with one of his limbs, Mr. Ibu implored for divine intervention and public support, saying, “I have been down for so many weeks. All I am hoping for is your prayers and assistance. As I speak to you, I am still lying down in the hospital; the medical director of this hospital said that the best solution is that, in case his new idea didn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg.
Just see me, if they cut off my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, talk to God Almighty, and I don’t want my legs to be cut off. Thank you so much. God bless you.”
Mr. Ibu’s daughter, Jasmine Okafor, confirmed that her father has been in the hospital for three weeks and that the family is grappling with the financial burden of his medical expenses. She appealed to Nigerians to come together to support the celebrated actor, ensuring he receives the best available medical treatment.
Prominent Nigerians, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, have reportedly stepped in to cover some of Mr. Ibu’s medical bills through his foundation. The actor’s condition has also garnered sympathy and support from other celebrities and fans on social media. Notably, Davido and twin superstars P-Square have also pledged their support for Mr. Ibu.
