Former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, has died. He passed away at the age of 74.
Doctors pronounced the ex-president dead after he was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday morning during a brief illness.
Mbeki’s family said the former president complained about his heart early in the morning before being taken to the hospital.
“We are in shock. He was full of life last night but this dawn all that he could say was his heart and we rushed him to the hospital but couldn’t make it,” a close family member said.
“The entire ANC is mourning,” said ANC chieftain Khusela Sangoni. He was vibrant a few days ago. He even talked to us about the LGE before we voted. We are completely taken aback.”
