Rapper’s Heartfelt Farewell to Daughter
On Saturday, June 22, 2024, controversial Limpopo rapper Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke attended his daughter Onthatile Chuene’s funeral after special arrangements were made with the hospital treating him. Despite initial speculation about whether he could attend due to his ongoing recovery, the funeral was postponed to accommodate his presence.
Shebeshxt, who posted an emotional tribute on his @OfficiallShebe_ X account, shared a picture of the eight-year-old’s white Disney’s Frozen-themed casket. His post read:
“You left a huge void in our hearts. I don’t think we will ever recover from this. We might seem strong, but deep down we wish we could wake up from this terrible nightmare and see your beautiful face and hear your wonderful voice saying, ‘Ke rata Batswadi baka ka pelo ka moka’ (I love my parents wholeheartedly).”
Funeral Service of Shebeshxt’s Daughter
Shebeshxt’s daughter, Onthatile Chuene, was laid to rest at Lebowakgomo cemetery in Zone F. The rapper, visibly heartbroken and wrapped in a mini blanket, attended the funeral in a wheelchair, accompanied by security and medical staff. Unable to attend the cemetery burial due to his condition, Shebeshxt broke down upon seeing his daughter’s coffin.
The large crowd at the funeral included politicians and artists, reflecting the community’s support for Shebeshxt and his family during this tragic time.

Tributes to Onthatile Chuene
Onthatile’s principal, Margaret Lekganyane, shared heartfelt memories of the young girl. She recounted the chaos that ensued at Northern Academy when Shebeshxt enrolled Onthatile, causing excitement among the students.
“Teachers couldn’t understand why the learners were peering through the windows and screaming. Because I am not a fan of Shebeshxt’s music, I couldn’t understand what the fuss was all about,” Lekganyane said.
Lekganyane highlighted Shebeshxt’s dedication to his daughter’s education, noting his love and commitment to her well-being.
Fatal Accident Claims Onthatile’s Life
Onthatile Chuene tragically passed away on June 9 in a car crash on the R37 road near Smelters Mine, Limpopo. Shebeshxt’s VW Polo collided with a truck while he was en route to perform at an ANC Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert. The crash left Onthatile so badly disfigured that family members were advised not to view her body during the visitation.
Shebeshxt, who also sustained injuries in the crash, was initially admitted to Polokwane Provincial Hospital and later transferred to Netcare Pholoso Hospital with the assistance of EFF leader Julius Malema, who is reportedly covering his medical bills. He was moved to the general ward on June 18 after nine days in the ICU.
Investigation and Possible Charges
The police have launched an investigation into the accident, collecting statements from those involved. Lot Ramusi, the family’s spokesperson and Shebeshxt’s lawyer, confirmed that the police contacted the musician for a statement but have not indicated whether he is under investigation for Onthatile’s death. Ramusi stated that Shebeshxt will provide a statement after the funeral.
Shebeshxt, facing potential culpable homicide charges, continues to receive support from fans and the community as he navigates this difficult period.
