‘Drunk, Trying to Flee’: Skeem Saam Actor Eric Macheru Involved in Car Crash
Eric Macheru, known for his role as Leeto Maputla on the popular SABC 1 soapie Skeem Saam, has found himself at the center of controversy following a car accident on Tuesday, 16 November. The actor is being accused of driving under the influence and allegedly attempting to flee the scene after the incident.

Refilwe Maleka, a Twitter user, took to the platform to share her experience with Macheru, accusing him of crashing into her vehicle after hitting another car. According to Maleka, the actor was visibly intoxicated during the incident and tried to escape after the crash.
In her Twitter post, Maleka explained that Macheru allegedly hit a man’s car before reversing into her Mazda in his attempt to flee. “He hit a man’s car and the passenger was injured. He hit my car while trying to flee the scene. I was with my six-month-old twins. He still tried to leave before the police arrived,” she tweeted.
“Total Disregard for People’s Lives”
Maleka shared several videos of the accident scene, showing the damage to her car and Macheru’s uninsured Audi. She described the actor as disoriented and expressed frustration over his alleged lack of responsibility. “Eric Macheru drinks and drives with total disregard for people’s lives and thinks being a ‘celebrity’ means suffering no consequences,” Maleka tweeted, adding that Macheru had refused to cooperate with her insurer.
She further revealed that she had been travelling with her infant twins at the time of the accident. Fortunately, neither Maleka nor her children were injured, but she emphasized how dangerous the situation could have been. “I was with my six-month-old twins… The most damaged car was his uninsured Audi,” Maleka added in her series of tweets.
